Minnesota Starvation Study: Making Sense of Restrictive Eating Disorder Behaviors

It is not uncommon for a majority of those struggling with an eating disorder or disordered eating habits to have an overwhelming amount of thoughts and concerns regarding food, body and weight. In the 1940’s a scientific study was launched to understand the impact starvation had on the body and mind. The outcome was an increase in food preoccupation, urges to overeat, an impact on mood and distorted self-image. In this webinar, melainie rogers nutrition, llc Nutritionist Blake Bittle, RDN will lead a reading and discussion of the Minnesota Starvation Study and explain what it tells us about the impact of eating disorder behaviors and restriction has on our body and mind.

Blake Bittle, RDN

Blake Bittle, RDN is a weight inclusive, HAES (Health At Every Size) informed registered dietitian - nutritionist. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics at West Chester University of Pennsylvania before completing her dietetic internship. Prior to joining melainie rogers nutrition, llc, Blake provided medical nutrition therapy and group education at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, an in-patient hospital affiliated with Columbia University Medical Center. Blake employs a Non-Diet, All Foods Fit approach to assist clients in rediscovering their internal cues and help them make peace with food and eating. She brings evidence based counseling principles, health promoting interventions, and a curiosity for lived experience into her sessions. Her professional affiliations include the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and The International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals.
